What did IFC (Channel) used to be like?

I wasn’t around when it was like this but I know that IFC used to be a channel showing nothing but independent films, now all they show is Two and a Half Men reruns. For those who were there, what did IFC use to be like? It sounds like heaven for a cinephile to just turn on a channel and watch an independent film that you would have never heard of any other way. I wish I could have been around when it was like this.
