Can someone explain to me why Hitchcock never won an Oscar?

I am a huge Hitchcock fan and it always burns me up that the academy voters never gave him an Oscar. I kinda feel like Psycho was his middle finger to Hollywood about it. Even though he was nominated but of course did not win. Same with Rear Window. was the direction on On the Waterfront better? It was really Brandos film.

And it absolutely is a crime that he was not even nominated for Shadow of a Doubt, Notorious, Strangers on a Train and North by Northwest. Frikking North by Northwest come frikken on!

And of course Vertigo. That is now considered one of the best movies ever made in history. But I can almost understand that one due to it was way WAY ahead of its time. But still it is a masterpiece. And should have gotten recognition.

So it like to hear it. What do you guys think? Was it jealousy of his talent? Or that he was considered a gimmick type of filmmaker? Or that he was pigeonholed into being the master of suspense that the academy did not take seriously? It always kinda pisses me off that the academy seemingly dismissed his talent. submitted by /u/Abbey_Something
